I am almost done with Tony Dungy's book Quite Strength. Here are some of my notes. My dad gave me the book and I have learned some great lessons from it already.
Its the Journey that counts
If you're going to be a good teacher, you can't just teach the A students. A good teacher helps everyone earn an A.
If you say you are going to do something you better do it.
Champions don't beat themselves
If you want to win, do the ordinary things better than anyone else does - day in and day out.
If you want to be a leader you must be a servant
Put people in positions to lead even if they don't need to do it today
Be patient - opportunities don't always come on your time or when you are looking for them
Prepare diligently so that when the opportunity arises you are ready
Champions are champions not because they do anything extraordinary but because they do the ordinary things better than anyone else
Set key metrics that deal with doing the little things better than anyone else
The first step toward creating an improved future is developing the ability to envision it. VISION will ignite the fire of passion that fuels our commitment to do WHATEVER IT TAKES to achieve excellence. Only VISION allows us to transform dreams of greatness into the reality of achievement through human action. VISION has no boundaries and knows no limits. Our VISION is what we become in life.
WHATEVER IT TAKES, NO EXCUSES, NO EXPLANATIONS, DO WHAT WE DO!!!
Do not go where the path may lead; go instead where there is no path and leave a trail - RWE
What will people remember you for? Are other people's lives better because we lived? Did we make a difference? Did we use to the fullest the gifts and abilities God gave us? Do we give our best effort? Do we do it for the right reasons?
Can you say I did the ordinary things as well as I could, I performed to the full limits of my ability, and I achieved success?
Football is not your life's work - Chuck Noll
"I think there are times when I believe God welcomes the circus into our lives to give us an opportunity to show that there's another way to live and respond to things."
When you can do the common things of life in an uncommon way, you will command the attention of the world - George Washington Carver
Do what you are supposed to do while waiting
Life will never be the same again, but you won't always feel like you do right now - Tony talking about the death of his son
One of my favorite Blogs is Seth Godin's. Whether you are a marketer or not it has some great insights into life and business.
did an informal MBA program with some students this spring. They just
finished and one of the big lessons that they learned was to go make something happen!!!
I have learned is that whether you have an MBA, an under graduate
degree, or no formal training at all if you GO MAKE SOMETHING HAPPEN
you will learn a lot, most likely be doing something you like to do,
and will be passionate about what you are doing.
