These benefits and characteristics translate into an environment where the employer cares for the employees and then the employee goes above and beyond in the service of its customers.
It has certainly worked for Wegmans. Everybody that comes to visit me from out of town always wants to go to Wegmans. It is not just a grocery store!!! Is your company just a __________? If so how can you change it?
I went to a MVSPC safety meeting yesterday. The meeting was excellent. Dival Safety sponsored the talk and presentation. Eric Giguere was the guest speaker. He was buried alive on a construction site and miraculously survived.
His talk and presentation was very emotional and inspiring. Some of my key take aways from the meeting are:
Are you digging ditches or building bridges? The way you look at things has a big impact in how you perform
Almost everybody wants to do a good job.
Who is counting on you? When you are thinking about doing something that is risky remember the 4 people that are counting on you.
Do something different. If we always do the same things we will always get the same results.
Go with natural human behavior rather than against it.
Don't cut corners - you pay the ultimate price not the company.
Eric's experience has drastically affected his and his families lives. It only took a second but it is something that they have to live with the consequences of for the rest of there lives. Because his team did not take proper safety precautions he had to fight for his life and his life will always be greatly impacted by that moment.
When you start out on a new endeavor, set out on a Vision Quest by asking yourself some questions about the state of things, such as:
What am I passionate about?
Does this idea fuel my passion?
What would I do if I knew I couldn't fail?
What opportunity is staring me in the face?
Is there a need unfulfilled?
How wold I fill that need differently?
Why is it done this way?
Is there a better way>
How will my involvement make an impact?

Write down your all your ideas
The vision breakdown:
With your Vision in front of you, work backward and break it down into a series of time sensitive goals.
Goals are more defined than a vision
Take those goals and break each one down even further into a series of necessary tasks.
Tasks are the major to do aspects of your game plan; they are clearly defined projects of limited duration.
Then take the tasks and break them down even further into finite action steps. Action steps are the nuts and bolts items that fill your daily to do lists. These lists should be prioritized to enhance progress
