Another good Leadership Wired (LW) by John Maxwell. He talks about the values of his organization.
1. Personal Growth
2. Making a significant contribution
3. Living and working with passion
4. Commitment to excellence
5. Team Leadership
6. Living a life of integrity
These are all values that I am looking for in a company. If you are a manager or small business owner these are all values that you should try to instill into your team and organization. If you do I believe that the members of your team will be willing to run through a wall for you.
Another point made in LW by Chuck Martin is that if you want your team to run through the wall for you, you must be willing to get in the trenches with them and truly understand and respect what they are doing.
Lastly, I heard an interview with Charlie Weis on the Jim Rome show yesterday. He is the new coach of the Notre Dame Football team and ex-offensive coordinator of the New England Patriots. He was asked what made the Patriots so successful. His answer was that they "created an environment where the team is more important than the individual." I don't like the Patriots but I respect their people because they know how to build a successful team and I think this quote is a big key.
